Meet true Liechtensteiner Siegbert Lampert

Meet true Liechtensteiner Siegbert Lampert

Probably one of Europe’s most charming country, the Principality of Liechtenstein, snuggles between Switzerland and Austria, among mountain ranges that rise steep and rugged above the upper Rhine river, which is the border to Switzerland.

Liechtenstein is embedded deep in the Alps, has breathtaking views and proudly counts one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

Only 25km long and 12km wide (at its broadest point), Liechtenstein does not have an international airport, and access from Switzerland or Austria is only possible by car or local bus, but the journey is known to be worthwhile.

Outdoor enthusiasts are in their element here, with a remarkable number of trails to hike and slopes to ski, given the country's size. For further information check www.liechtenstein.li.

We met with Siegbert Lampert (a Eurojuris Member since 1996), a former judge of the Constitutional Court of Liechtenstein and founding partner at Lampert & Partner Attorneys at Law Ltd (see www.lplaw.li) , a law firm offering a large variety of legal services, but focusing mainly on corporate and commercial law, asset tracking and recovery, financial institutions regulations, charities and private clients.

We asked Siegbert a few questions on practicing law in Liechtenstein, his recent cases and on his life in general.

Can you give us the specifics of practicing law in your country?

“The legal system is similar like in Switzerland or Austria, but probably more often than in bigger countries, we have cases with international links and sometimes big values”.

What kind of cases do you usually handle?

“We handle both domestic and international cases, though most of them involving cross border elements. The majority of our clients and of the cases handled by us have some international links and so quite naturally we also very often act in close cooperation with some colleagues abroad”.

Do you often handle case referrals from other Eurojuris member firms?

“Only very few referrals to report, I’m afraid. But always ready to assist if needed”.

Tell us about yourself?

“One of the rare true and original Liechtensteiners - there are only about 20’000 of us - I am married with a French woman, and we have two teenage kids. A lot of work, but in summer on nice weekends, I like to go for a ride in the surrounding Swiss or Austrian alps with my Indian motorcycle and in general I travel quite a bit with my family or for business purposes”.

Why did you become a lawyer?

“I personally always wanted to be and stay independent and self-determined. I wanted to know myself what is “legal” and where one needs to be careful, so that I am also able to help clients and friends with my experience and expertise. I strongly believe the freedom and independence are among the most important values, for societies as well as for individuals”.

Will you be joining us at our International Congress in Lisbon next spring?

“I don’t know yet for sure, but I have already now a rather dense schedule for spring”.

We thank Siegbert for his time and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
