Meet Adrian Obando (Costa Rica) as he shares with us his memories of numerous trips across the Old World in the company of young professionals.
When he joined Eurojuris three years ago, Adrian had no idea what was ahead of him. 'I went to a meeting in Miami, Florida. There, I met the former president of Eurojuris and other attorneys. They told me about the network and asked me if I would join. In my country, Costa Rica, we receive a lot of investments from the United States and Canada, but also from Europe, so I thought it was interesting for me to join a European network as well'. Professional expectations were soon to be doubled with a lot of fun for Adrian.
He was invited to Eurojuris and Jurismus events, first in Maastricht, Netherlands, and then in Treviso, Italy. 'It is a long trip coming from America. It takes one day to reach the place, then I need one more day to recover from jet-lag ! And then it will be another day to fly back. So I thought if I have to come to Europe, I might as well take an extra holiday and visit a few places'. At the time of writing, Adrian is just back from the Jurismus meeting in Madrid, and he also took an extra trip. 'I have been to Turkey, to visit Istanbul. And also to Bordeaux, in France, because I love wine!’
But Adrian also took the occasion to meet friends. 'In my first meeting, in Maastricht, I met Thomas Benson (EJ Norway), Tim Becker (EJ Germany), and others... we really became good friends. Jurismusers, as they call themselves, are very friendly, and are very nice people. All of them welcomed me from the start, it was amazing, really. That's when I felt that Eurojuris and Jurismus were something special. You know, I've been in other networks in my life as an attorney, but this one is something different, it's difficult to explain, but there is a human touch in the way things are done'.
Back from Madrid to San José, Adrian speaks with some nostalgia about the last meeting. 'Madrid was so great, the food amazing, and the costume party was amazing !' Adrian refers to a competition organised with a super-hero theme. 'It is a pity, because I came from other destinations, I couldn't bring a costume myself... I was dressed as Super-Lawyer !' Already looking forward to the next meeting, Adrian has a word for his EJ friends : 'Madrid was very well organised, thanks to Marina and the people of her lawfirm, and I have to say I will never forget Thomas, he is such a character, I really want to thank them all !'
